How Retro Watches Became an Accessory in Today's Fashion Trend

Retro Watches

Several years ago, a wrist watch’s primary use was simply to tell the time. Sure, style was also a factor (after all, folk still wanted to look good) but generally speaking having the time on you was pretty fantastic, and quite frankly as good as it got. If a passerby should stop you and ask “Excuse me Sir/ Madam, would you happen to have the time” you could simply flick your wrist and reply “Certainly my good fellow/ Lady, the time is ...” or alternatively you could tell them to shove off and shoo them away with your morning paper. Those were the times when Retro Watches were once considered the latest and coolest gizmo.

We’ve discussed with the different designs of the twentieth cenutury – retro watches with their Vintage looking faces and leather watch straps, to funky and bold designs of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, where fashion took a few daring turns and the industry gave birth to the first wave of digital retro watches, Neon retro watches and the like. The old wrist watch certainly has seen a few changes over the years!

How Retro Watches Evolved in Today’s Technology

Compared to earlier days, technology has vastly changed with retro watches and even retro sweets has changed. Wrist watches have greatly become a multi-purpose tool since the invention of solar-powered watches, GPS watches, and other remarkable features. Seems like almost anything can be added into a wrist watch now. However, the latest smart phones also has great technological changes. A few number of people may no longer feel the need to wear wrist watches or any other gadgets whilst tagging along the latest iPhones. Today’s young ones can forget about bringing a watch as they can have the time, the weather, and thousands of other applications at their fingertips all in one device.

Are Retro Watches Simply for Fashion?

Perhaps it could be! After all a wrist watch for many people doesn’t seem to be a necessity, however more of an accessory. We find the time on wall clocks, on our phones, in our laptops and other devices which lessens the need for us to strap one around our wrist.

For those who were around to see the retro watches of yesterday there may just be that familiar factor – they plainly and simply like the feel of a watch on their wrist. Many of us nowadays like a bit of Bling also. A lot of Retro Watches designs offer bright colours, bold features and a general Bling factor that we have grown to expect from our funky fashion accessories. So the question is this: Is there a chance we will grow tired of all these technological gizmos and go back to the good old fashioned retro designed watches? Only time can tell!
